Name that duckie! New rescues!

Are you branching out from Muscovy or you have other breeds as well?
Actually started out last year with Magpie and Cayuga, which my daughter raised until I moved out here with her. I saw an ad for some Muscovy and decided I wanted some, and the rest is history, lol! Fell in love with them.

We had some bad luck with our other ducks, and lost a bunch, three to predators (we think), and one to unknown causes. We were left with one Magpie female, and one Cayuga drake (the Muscovy were all fine!). The Magpie was sitting, and we got three babies from that.

I consider the non-Muscovy to be my daughter's. But these four girls are mine! lol!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your ducks.

Muscovy are a wonderful duck. They have a lot of character and are a pretty hardy breed. And they do come in so many pretty colors and patterns. I love a lot of different breeds of ducks.

Thank you. It was... difficult.

I won't lie, the Muscovy are still my favourites, for the reasons you stated. I love nothing more than sitting on the ground outside and being surrounded by them as they go about their business. And my particular favourite, my blue juvenile drake, Mist, loves to cuddle and be pet. They are my Happy Place. :)

I don't have any cuddly Muscovy. They are cuddly when they are broody. They go for the limp method with severe guilt trip to try an keep their eggs. My Saxony on the other hand are more cuddlers. I tried to put them to bed one night and threatened to cuddle them. Usually this makes them head on in. Instead they happily stopped for cuddles. One stopped for seconds.

Lovely! The Swede is the only one I could find with that sort of overall blue. For all I know, this could be a mixed breed, but since these were hatched from eggs for a class project, I'd be more inclined to say they're purebred.

Yeah, mine doesn't seem to have much iridescence. Here is another pic from the ad I'm getting them from:

She's still bent over, but legs seemed to far ahead for a runner, to my unaccustomed eye.

And what the heck is on that Rouen's bill? She looks like she's smirking...
She most likely has mud on her bill, mine walk around with it pilled so high I don't know how they breathe. lol

Mine turn into Cobra Ducks when they go broody!

I'm hoping the few of the ducklings that are cuddly remain so. And that the new girls aren't too shy, either!

Figured that was probably it, I just love the sideways smirk she gives in that pic though.

As for my other ducks, and how I lost them, that was before I joined here. One by one, they just disappeared. No masses of feathers, no freaking out ducks in the yard. I'm thinking they found a spot near the marsh to nest, since one of the Cayuga actually came back, only to go missing again. We kept hoping they'd make it and just come sauntering back into the yard one day, but have given up on that.

The Magpie drake is harder though. One evening, he wasn't himself, even let me hold him without struggle. In the morning, he had died. Only thing I can think of was maybe he got internal injuries from when my dog got loose and 'played' with him in the marsh. I found the dog trying to hold the poor drake down in the water. I'm sure he was just playing, but he's big and rambunctious and clumsy. Just over a year old, so still a pup.
