I feel at a loss.

I have a bunch of chicks and honestly don't have names for the ones who will be my egg layers. I enjoying watching the chicks and can even differentiate between the various birds, but no names have even popped into my head. I'm quick to name dogs and cats, but there's nothing there when it comes to naming the birds.

Maybe when they're older and I know which ones are going to stay egg layers?

I think they're pretty fun and enjoy them, but no names are coming to me. Maybe because they're not 100% pets but working animals?

Name them for their unique traits. I have a hen named Sleeve-Eater (because she pecked at clothing once) and one named Snowneck. Names can be pretty easy.

What about naming them after characters in a movie? "Steel Magnolias" comes to mind. You could have Shelby, Annelle, Miss Clairee, M'Lynn, Truvy, and of course...Weeza!

My friend named 2 of mine (Fric and Frac--- handy because Fric is nuts so I call her "Fricken Chicken"); I named 2 for my nephew's baseball teams (Agnes = Aggies, Pat = Patriots); and 2 were "inspired" by stuff in my kitchen - Peaches and Clementine (little wooden crate labeled Clementine for the citrus)

You could use famous duos - Thelma and Louise, Starsky and Hutch, Luke and Chewy
Sports Teams - Yankee, Angel, Bengal
Foreign Languages - Uno, Tres' , (or google translations to other languages for other words... like "chicken"

)
Foods - Nugget, Bleu

It'll just come to you. I have 5, but one is un-named at the moment. Unfortunately, I didn't get to name any of them! My mom named one of them "CC" for "crazy chicken" cause it jumped out of the box she was shipped in at my mom. lol I've always wanted to name a red colored chicken Billina, like from Return To Oz.. but the 2 I know will be red already have names. Still holding out on that name until more feathers come in!

I dont make an effort to name the chicks... I let the names just come to me...

Sassy-pants
Buckwheat
Baby Cakes
Big Boy
Pretty Boy
Baby Chick
Wilma
Nellie

As I spend time with them, names just come to me... I don't force it... lol

I haven't named all of mine. My first one was Henny Penny, real unique. She is a barred rock.

For the bantams I have Pearl and Betsy, a silver laced Wyandotte and an Ameraucana; guess which one is which. I have a New Hampshire named Lucy because she is a red head. My blue laced red cornish and my 2 roos don't have names. Yet. One day it will happen, I am sure. Haven't even begun to name the 24 chicks I have, wouldn't know where to start.

Maybe I don't name them because they don't come when they are called unless it is "chickie chickie" and they don't need a name for the vet's office.

I usually don't name my chicks until they have a unique trait or personality that fits. Sometimes that pops up at a couple days of age, sometimes not until after they're laying.

I know I have 49 chicks right now still waiting to be named.
