Nankins

Yeah, I understand, I do have one RC roo that just outright wants to be a pet. He's figured out a way to escape the coop and is out side, right by the door every morning waiting for me and as soon as he sees me come running up and flies up onto my shoulder, and stays there until I have to shoo him off to do do something. This is my eternal punishment for giving extra attention to the runt. He was the last of my cockerels to make up his mind which gender he was. I thought he was a pullet for the longest time because he just never grew any roster feathers, no sickles, no hackles, no saddle, so comb or wattles, he even sat in the nest boxes with the pullets. but he was the most curious and brave/stupid

of the flock and would never run away from me, he's still the only one that actually eats out of my hand, unless it's mealworms then all bets are off, but I would feed him scratch out of my hand trying to build trust with the others. It worked all right, but then one day my super friendly pullet rared back and CROWED, and I think me and every other chicken in the coop stopped and and looked at him like "WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!" wasn't long after that till he finally put on his big boy clothes. And still he remembers me hand feeding him, lol. I think I will keep him just for personality and comic value even after I find homes for my other Rosecombs.

Oh my gosh

He sounds like so much fun!!! I have a question. Do Nankins have a really annoying crow?

*sigh* I really want a Nankin roo so I can start breeding...but of course my dad doesn't want the noise of a rooster and he doesn't want the chicks because he thinks I'll have to keep most of them.

Of course, he can't say anything about getting eggs for my '4H project' *evil laugh*

heheh, I think a lot of the bantam breeds are like that for me. I will wait though until next year, as I want to build 8 new pencoop combos before getting more. I am already working with the Belgian birds, and I want to be able to keep everyone properly separated for breeding. I will be keeping an eye on this and the other Nankin thread in the meantime. So helpful.

Yup. Me too. Ruby and her flock got a new chicken coop today

So they will be set for winter (although winter here gets to about the 40's or, very rarely, the late 30's) but we will be having very misty mornings and maybe some rainfall.

Hello All Nankin Bantam lovers from Roseburg, Oregon
yippiechickie.gif
We just love our Nankins they are friendly, and fun to have as pets. We started raising them because we got one from a feed store in Oregon and fell in love with the breed, took us a long time to find out what breed. The American Livestock Breeds Conservancyt
http://albc-usa.org/ lists Nankins as critical. We have a small flock made up from 5 states, rose and straight comb mixed breed. We have been able to donate Nankins to the local FFA students we plan to donate some to other FFA and 4H groups as our flock grows. To own Nankins is to love them and want to share them with others. We will be selling eggs in the Spring $18.00 dozen, plus shipping $15.00. When our Spring chicks hatch I will be selling pair for $25.00 plus shipping $15.00.
