Hi...I'm not new to backyard poultry but am in a changing environment that makes the introduction of chickens to my grandkids and neighbors a bit more challenging than it used to be. We would like to keep a rooster with the hens but may encounter problem with that early morning crowing. I have heard tell of surgery performed on a rooster that modifies the vocal restraint. I'll pursue this thread in the forums! Thanks for letting me join.

If you are permitted roosters and you want one, keep one and do not have such a surgery performed. The neighbors will have to adjust.
If you are not permitted roosters, don't get one.
