Nasty eye infection (pics)

This video shows chickens with swollen eyes being treated for eye worms. Enjoy.

Oh, eye worms are caused by eating insects that have picked up the eye worm eggs and the young worm has hatched and migrated to the eyes of your chickens where the worms finishes their life cycle.

one thing I keep on hand for my family and animals is garlic infused olive oil, works great on a lot of different things until I can get out to the farm store as we live in small rural mountain town. Used it so far on ears mouth and sinuses. Sure seems to have helped over the years at least temporarily until could get to doc,vet or store to get the good stuff, it does have mild numbing effect like ambesol.

Pour on or topical Ivermectin for poultry will I think work on eye worm parasites in chickens. Someone on this forum reported success with swollen eyes after only one application of Ivermectin.

That will not fix this chicken.

I can do the surgery, but I don't know if anyone can hold her for me. I can probably manage by myself.

First here is a pic of a peachick that has Pseudomonas.



It looks very similar to what your chicken has and there are only a couple of antibiotics that will work. I used Zactran at 0.3 ml per 500 gm bird.

As far as removing the pus, we do basically the same thing as in the video pushing it up and out through the eye.
