This bird was limping (he's mean so dont handle much) I brought him in, I noticed he isn't eating or drinking. I decided to pick him up and take the beating and biting he was going to give me. I found these huge infections? On him. Any advice?? I soaked in Epsom salt he wasnt happy. I have tylon 200, and blue kote, he was being beat up by another young rooster so I think that could be the cause, but i am unsure. And and all advice on how to deal with this is appreciated, this is the first injury I am dealing with. It looks horrible, I did kind of take some scabing off to try and see what it looked like under. It's not pretty no liquid pus it's all hard? And spongey.

If you are lucky, these are only pecking injuries that have gotten infected. But they look like fly larvae are eating the flesh, or something is. There could be fly larvae inside, but the injuries are really badly infected.

What antibiotic ointments do you have available? You need to research and treat this like a fly strike wound, hopefully there aren't really larvae present, but medications you need to treat it are going to be the same as flystrike.

Roughly treatment is going to be done every day.

1. Isolate him to prevent further damage

2. Give him vitamins and electrolytes in the water.

3. Cleaning the wound and hygiene is critical important. Use lots of water and try to clean it. Don't cause pain or force removal of scabs, it will tear the skin.

4. Research flystrike treatment for what medicines to apply depending where you live.

Me personally, I live rural and would only have coconut oil available to apply as an antibiotic after cleaning the wound. I would also give a different antibiotic than Tylon 200.

The scab came off really easy I was surprised! QI dont have any antibiotic ointment. I live rural too, and have coconut oil! I'll look up what to use for fly strike! Thank you!!

The user above gave fantastic advice. Just wanted to add, if you have no access to regular antibiotic cream you can use honey in it's place. Honey is a great antibacterial/antibiotic!

I thought tumor too! I'm unsure which it is, I'd like to save Him, he's good to the girls but just doesn't like to be held/handled. I'm going to try and treat it with some ointment if I can get my hands on some and try to keep everything clean and dry. 🤞🤞
Oh goodness. I, too, would treat for infection, but I also wonder if they could be tumors.
