nasty rooster

I had a bitter Leghorn roo that would lurk in the trees or barn roof for an aerial attack. He was a fury-ful dink, so I tolerated him for a bit and armed myself with a broom. When the broom tactics became annoyingly futile due to the roo's persistence, he was butchered...and, I hate to admit, with a certain amount of glee because the torment would be over. Anyway, underneath all the feathers was the scrawniest little 2-lb carcass ever. He was all mean and no meat!

I am in agreement with the other folks on here: Life is too short to have to tolerate a mean roo. Best to eliminate the hassle.

Wow great post nice repetition there. Once again, a 'nice' rooster does not do his job as well as a mean one. Say you have human intruders in your garden, what will your rooster do? Nothing And what will my rooster do? Attack. are my hens safer?
Shall I give more examples?

Thank you, my teacher always said poetry was my thing.

And please give me a more realistic example before you get snappy and sarcastic dearie.
The chances of someone coming into my yard to solely hurt my flock are about none.

Can i add this from experience

You can keep your soft, spineless roosters

A nasty rooster is a good rooster #fact

My rooster Caine I rescued from a meat factory as he escaped, he is a mean dude, full of aggression.

I have saw him biting a fox on the face to save my hens, I ran over and scared the fox and my boy was un-injured. He is a warrior, he will attack me if i show a aggressive behavour in the garden, there are ways to get aroynd this. i catch him and stroke him, he wont do it again then for that day. Any fox, squirrel, bird of prey cat, that enters his domain gets two talons in the face. You may think your tame softy is a good cock, let me tell you he's not, he's not doing his job properly. If people visit I put him away. It's that simple really.

A GOOD ROOSTER IS A NASTY ROOSTER #simples

Agree 100%

(But he doesn't HAVE to be nasty to YOU)

So sad that the first option everyone thinks of is soup! :( he is doing his JOB. If he's being mean to you, it means that he thinks YOU are the spineless mean one lol ;)

Training can go a long way to help make a "nasty" rooster bearable. He may have been kicked or picked on, and now he doesn't trust people. He is the ruler of his ladies and is protecting them to death, which sounds like what might happen just because he hasn't been properly trained.

Some breeds ate more aggressive, yes, but they only respond with what they are given. They need to know that they are over the hens, but YOU are over THEM. Not letting him peck, chase, etc... Stop him in his tracks when he gets mean, grab him, and hold him down until he drops his head, stops struggling, and submits.

Do that every time he goes for you, and in a couple days, your roo will either respect you as his leader, or you can toss him in the stew pot. But give the poor guy a chance, fix what went wrong before whacking him lol ;)

(The "soft" vs"hard" roo is kinda redundant...a "soft" roo is simply put, TAME to humans. Not any better or worse when it comes to a true predator.)

Wow we are all entitled to our opinions aren't we? No need to get hostile Sirofsilkies.... Not my fault your rooster doesn't do his job properly. Man up, get a decent rooster that isn't a fairy. At the end of the day my rooster does his job 100% and yours doesnt. Go pet your fairy rooster

Maybe we can send all of our nasty roosters to you?

We are indeed, and I frankly was not being hostile.

And my rooster is not a fairy, he does his job 100%, protecting my hens with skill without being rude about it.
He does EXACTLY what yours does without apparently attacking humans as yours must do, since you imply it's somehow better if its rude to humans.

Okay,
While it may seem Unreasonable and Unlikely it is possible.
Not trying to sound childish or uneducated with this example but something along the Disney edition of Balto is possible- Under the right circumstances

And yes it does benefit a nicer rooster the same- If not more- To be nicer to people considering most people would cull their nasty birds in
