If you ask around the farm stores, you might find someone who has hens that are hatching eggs and raising chicks. I find most people who raise chickens to be very friendly and willing to talk to others about their passion for their flock. Also, if you have a local 4H program, they may get you in touch with others who are raising chickens naturally, with roosters and hens.
I like having broody hens, and do try to have broody raised chicks whenever possible. The hens have their plans, and my plans don't always mesh with theirs! Expecting things to go on schedule is a joke, usually, and incubator hatchlings can be more predictable. Likewise chicks ordered from elsewhere.
Counting chickens? Sure.
