That’s right, everybody! I was able to photograph comet C/2024 G3 ATLAS in broad daylight!

I must warn you all that it was very tricky and a little dangerous. I had to align my telescope to the sun with a solar filter, and then I input the coordinates of Atlas, and once the telescope moved there and I verified that the sun was not in the field of view, I removed the solar filter and got this picture.

I FINALLY got a good photo of Mars last night. My camera wouldn't work last Mars opposition, so I literally had to wait a few years to get this photo.

I’m not gonna be able to post space pictures for a while, my telescope finally truly failed. Catastrophic failure.

Until I get a new telescope, have some homegrown mushroom pictures!

FYI: I only grow mushrooms that are legal to cultivate. These ones are pearl oysters. I currently have some Lions Mane in the primordia phase.

I don't have any pictures to share but I do have a couple links you guys might find interesting. I didn't get to see Comet ATLAS (C/2024 G3) because of a lot of bad weather here but I love looking online at what others photograph. Yuri Beletsky is an astronomer and award-winning photographer who has captured some of the best I've seen of this comet from the Paranal Observatory in Chile. As I followed the progression of this latest comet past perihelion and towards the Southern Hemisphere, it's been very interesting studying and comparing it to both Comet Lovejoy (C/2011 W3) and Comet McNaught (C/2006 P1). ATLAS and Lovejoy both disintegrated just a couple days after a close perihelion and looked remarkably similar, while ATLAS and McNaught both had the long, sweeping tails that could be photographed in the Northern Hemisphere well after their respective nucleus had sunk below the horizon.
