Well i will dive right in.. i have been wanting to start raising chickens for a while and my neighbors chickens had 4 babies in one of my bushes on christmas day.. so the hard work began..(it has a door with a cutout now)

Do the neighbors want the hen and chicks back? I think Mama is an easter egger. Do you know what color eggs were in the nest? The fenced area she is in is not safe for her or the chicks, than can squeeze through the openings and escape to danger. Predators can get through there also.
 
Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I agree with drumstick diva; mama looks like an Easter Egger. X2 on your birds pen not being safe from predators either.
