NC's overpopluation and wildlife

I agree, I love my animals and they will be protected. What bothers me is every time I get in the car and drive down the road I see death everywhere. Deer and fox bodies cover the roads because we are running them out of the woods by tearing down the trees to make room for million dollar homes and walmarts...5 miles from other walmarts.

I say I'm a tree hugger because I'd rather take a walk through the beautiful woods and watch wildlife in their natural environment instead of walking through a strip mall.

And I agree with you, SouthernChick. It sickens me that so many animals are losing their natural range. So we're right back to where we started. Our state has been sold out by the politicians and builders. They say you can never go home, and I believe it. But as long as I can dream, home is still there....meanwhile, I've got my piece of land with no one close to me.....yet.

The over abundance of deer is more likely to be blamed on lack of hunters of the human kind than us moving into the thier habitat. Though I do believe that has something to do with it no matter where you live, North or South.

That is so true! It has been shown that deer populations grow an estimated 10% every year with hunting! Without hunting, they overpopulate their range, destroy their own feed sources and die of deseases that if their populationn were kept in check they would not have gotten! When they overpopulate, they also catch deseases from farm animals and transfer desease to farm animals. So, if you are against hunting, you are against the health of the animals you so dearly love. I love deer and understand this.

I hate to go all "The Lion King" on y'all but we do all life in the circle of life. Most of us eat meat.

I LOVE animals, I can honestly say that I love animals more than people. BUT I am not a vegetarian. I love to eat meat.

We are at the top of the food chain. I believe in killing animals for our food. I DO NOT belive in killing for sport. Many people will disagree with me on this but you will not change my mind.

Yes the population of certain animals are high and yes killing them for sport will help keep the population down. But why kill anything unless their bodies are used for something??? Eat their meat, make tools out of their bones. Why are the old ways not good enough for us anymore.

Maybe it's my Native American heritage that makes me feel this way, I don't know.

I can say...thanks to all that have posted for keeping this thread a discussion and not an agrument We have not been warned and I hope we will not be locked. Thank you all.
