I have a Buckeye roo (He's up for grabs!) who wears a collar because he can't crow where I live.
On Thursday morning, I went out to the coop as usual and, as he'd managed to loosen it -again- I tightened it. No biggie. Not long after, I gave them a treat, and while they were eating it, I noticed that he was trying to crow- at least, that's what I thought. I walked about 20 ft away to grab a bird and return her to the coop (I let them free range a little in the morning) and by the time I got back, he was rolling around on the ground and his entire face was bright purple. I dropped Sunshine and ran over to him, ripped off the collar and held his head in my hands as he wheezed. It was really weird watching the color return to his face, but it did and he slowly caught his breath, then hopped up, fluffed, and started strutting around as usual. I think what'd happened is that his treat had caught in his throat and, because the collar had just been tightened and didn't have time to adjust, he choked.
Praise the Lord he didn't die- it was close!
Anyways, that's his near death experience!

Glad he didnt die.

I had something that could have been dangerous to a young rooster we had (thankfully it wasnt summer at the time)

I had a rooster I call ed chirpy because of how loud his chirp was as a chick (he was an only chick), anyway, he was around 6 months old and it was time to start keeping him in the coop at night, well we did. We also have ducks to we have an elevated duck pool in the run that had a layer of ice to. The next morning, we woke up and found the poor rooster completely soaked and stuck in the duck pond on thin ice. Lucky the ice didnt break and he didnt get sick from being soaked. He was really shaken and glad to see me though.

Glad your roo is ok! I once had a white silkie chick, about 2 weeks old, that hopped into a kiddy pool my mom and grandma made for the ducks..I heard loud chirping from my window and saw him swimming but really drowning in there...I ran out and saved him. That was when he almost died.

When he was 5 months old I had to rehome him but told the person I could take him back if it didn’t work out to try to find him another home. I took him back and the partridge rock bantam rooster I raised him with pecked him on the head and he died instantly since silkies have vaulted skulls. That was when he really died.
