Nearly DOA mail order chicks

X3!

All Live Animal shipments should be done in properly marked and USPS approved boxes... those are handled separately than regular post and Special Handling... they keep them aside in their own designated area and are hand loaded after the regular post...

But the boxes *must* be marked Live and be made within USPS standards... Horizon is the most popular and is an approved company by USPS for live handling boxes...

X2, were they shipped in a box that was USPS approved, and marked live? I've never ever had this happen with any chicks or birds, and I've gotten quite a few in the mail. Were they shipped in a chick box? Because at ten days old they definitely shouldn't have been; eight ten day olds are too big for a chick shipping box. And were they overnighted? A ten day old chick can't go without food and water like a day old can - day olds can live off the yolk for up to three days. A ten day old doesn't have that cushion anymore.

Anyway, I'm glad you have four survivors, and I'm sorry the PO mishandled them, but if certain steps weren't taken by the seller, it's not the PO's fault. If it wasn't a USPS approved live bird shipping box that was clearly marked lived animals, they probably had no clue what was in there. Scared birds are quiet birds, so the chicks probably didn't even make any noise to indicate they were in the box.

Sounds like you're doing well with helping the ones you have left recover. The most important things are to keep them warm, and provide them with food and water. Nutri Drench, if you can get it, will really help them out.

I always set eggs on Sunday or Monday so I can ship chicks that are under 24 hours.

Nutri-Drench is a nutrient rich supplement that rapidly delivers energy and essential nutrients. The molasses base helps give quick energy.
It contains vitamins A, D, E, calcium, lysine and methionine, several other vitamins and minerals.
