Nebraskans Speak Up!!! NEBRASKA ROCKS!!

The wind is comming from the east and the snow is wet. That makes it tough on all my outdoor animals. They have a fairly good set-up in a porch on the east side of the house. But it is all drifted in and wet. I made a make shift cat box on the west porch. Hopefully they use it (though we have enough outbuildings everyone probably already found good place to hide. The dog did not though. I found her shivering and wet, so she gets to be a house dog today, whether she likes it or not. She has the fur to handle the cold, but wet is bad.

We are lucky here in Omaha, the power was off only about six hours.
The lightning was the kicker. In February in a snow storm.
Sure was pretty tho.

Quote: The open end of my tractor faces east, and was plastered shut ...... birds were fine.

We only got about 4 inches, but lost several tree branches because it was so heavy and wet.

Weather is not bad at all, compared to the pasting folks in the middle of the state are getting.

I'm a bit under the weather, myself ..... but have the stock pot full of chicken soup and the wood stove is roaring.

It is still snowing. But we made chili here and I am baking bread, so at least we have warm yummy smells

Hi! New here. I live about 12 miles south of aurora. I bought a farm last fall and it has a coop. Looking forward to getting chicks this spring but I have a million questions. I've found lots of info poking around here of course. I guess the big question for me is when do I get chicks. I don't have electricity in my coop so when they go outside they will have to suck it up if it gets chilly. I have lots of work to do to get things ready. Just waiting for my snow to all melt.

Hello neighbor! I am about 30 miles south of you on hwy 14. As long as you have a heated brooder you can get them anytime. As soon as they feather out they do not need heat, mine have went all winter without heat.
But they need a heater brooder until then. I think Orchelens starts selling chicks in April. I generally keep them in the brooder for a couple weeks, then start letting them out.
