Your flock will be far happier and more peaceful with 5 hens and 1 drake. Things will get far worse in the Spring if you still have too many drakes. If they have access to water, multiple drakes breeding the same hen in unision or succession can drown her. Overbreeding can also injure the hips and pelvises of the hens. Drakes trying to breed a hen at the same time can also damage eyes and cause blindness. Please consider limiting the number of drakes for the safety of your hens.

Perhaps it's my German heritage that causes me to draw the devil onto the wall? I have been around animals of all species my entire life. I have some book knowledge and a lot of practical hands on experience. Sometimes what I perceive as a logical solution to a situation is interpreted as pragmatic, judgemental, and pessimistic.

That's never my intent. I worry about what is best for the animals. (Sometimes to the exclusion of peoples' feelings.)
