Momma_bear so sorry for all your troubles. Sad truly sad. Thank you for your post. It will teach a lot of us. Saying a little prayer for you and yours. :hugs

Thank you! I appreciate it!!

Had he just eaten?

No, was hours before.

Sometimes their intestines shut down right before death and they will have crops full of food and or liquid.

They are all kind of like that. Slow to digest.

Well, yeah, that's why I asked if he had just eaten.
Wondered if the crop fullness was from a last meal just before death,
or a non emptying crop was part of the problem overall.

He ate several hours before Necropsie.

No, was hours before.
Wonders if it was impacted....would have cut it open to see.
But have no idea how long it takes for food to move from crop to gizzard when they have free feed available, only when I've isolated birds overnight (without feed) to observe crop function and they are empty within 8 hours.

Yeah we're thinking they were drinking enough to just make the food a mash, but not loose enough to work down.

If I remember correctly, both birds pictured had diseased intestines, and that alone will keep the crop from emptying.

Yes, they do have Coccidia, anything else I'm unaware of.

So, I have started to mash their feed and give them less. Hoping it'll help get the feed to work down. Both chickens I Necropsied did have hard full crops of mash feed. I started that yesterday and the weakest has already started to perk up. No more bloody poop in the coop either and Corrid is still going as well. I will be getting grit when I can and better feeders and waterers as well.

I'm pretty sure she is just pointing out that having coccidiosis causes crop problems.

Oh yes, of course. I don't mean anything rude by it. I'm sorry if it came out that way. I was just agreeing and stating she was correct. That they do have coccidia. However, if they have any other problems beyond the crop issue and coccidia, that I must be missing it.
