The cancer might not have been related to Mareks disease, but you really need to get some testing done next time you see any respiratory disease symptoms, or a necropsy if you lose a chicken. Infectious bronchitis usually causes sneezing and a little congestion. MG may cause bubbles in an eye, and can look similar to IB, but IB will not cause the bubbles in the eye or swelling in the face. Call your state vet and ask how to get some inexpensive testing for next time. They can also tell you the minimum price for a necropsy on a backyard chicken. I was surprised to find it was only $23 here in Ohio if I delivered the body to the state vet.
Don't deal with the vet for a necropsy. Call the state lab tomorrow.Ok I cross posted. I'll look into testing further if one dies. I did go to the local vet a month or so ago and it was $100 for the visit and sending work to a lab.
Enjoy your vacation.I wasn't at all impressed with the vet's office and don't want to go back there or use them for anything. I can't promise to call the state vet tomorrow - I'm on vacation and a few chicken worry free days will be nice! - but it's on my to do list. I do think I'll call as the best idea. The lab seems to be in Orlando - about 3 hours each way. Not sure I'm willing to drive that but I did read your post on asking for the FedEx code. I'll see what they say/suggest.
