Necrotic Beaks

Wow. This seems super serious to me. Flesh eating bacteria intruduced through the beak??? I would disinfect all feeders and waterers. Not much you can do about the ground. Zero chance of them getting into something corrosive? Sorry you are dealing with this.
No chance of anything corrosive. Their digs are pretty sweet. They are in a chicken trailer with an automated brooder built into it. I’m uploading some pics of the flocks, but the red and white trailer is one I built myself from a harbor freight trailer. It’s got automatic lights, a night light that’s on a sensing eye, and a brooder built in that has two 250W ceramic heat lamps on a thermostatically controlled circuit. There are 14 babies in there that have 10 square feet of room to roam and find the perfect heat preference.

The other ones are of my new John Suscovich style chicken tractor with my 11 10 week old American Bresse from GreenFire Farms in it.

Also, yes the breeder is reputable. He’s NPIP certified and the DOAH referred to him by last name before I told him the man’s name, so the DOAH knows who they are. They’re good people. Just sucks, but I’m glad to have it under control so far and to have the BOAH and Breeders support.

Sorry to hear about your losses. I read about this product on another thread to help with a bumble foot issue. I am not sure it will help with the soil, but it might be worth looking into. It's called Litter Life

Good luck and Good Health to you and your flock!
I really appreciate you updating this thread with your findings and I will certainly be mentally storing the info for future reference, although it would have been nice to know what the infection actually is.
i agree, and I asked them if they wanted to test the bird, but they said “well it’s definitely bacterial and you definitely killed it with doxycycline, so by the time we are able to sample it it’ll be gone already.” Lmao. Good, I wanted to kill it haha.

I may have to get some of that for flock change overs. The way our system works is we are using back to Eden method on all of our garden beds. The area where the chickens are located is 50X100, but it’s divided in half to 25X100. Its deep mulched 6” plus deep with freshly chipped wood chips. This year the chickens are in the left and Garden on right. Next year the chickens will be moved to the right and Garden in the left. We’re not certified organic but we could be. We only use rated products. So I have to be careful of what I use on the mulched area, but this product says it’s for Garden follow up use. I’ll have to research it some more.

I thought it was interesting to kill bacteria, we have lots of stray and feral cats no idea what they bring over, plus blue jays and other birds. The fact that it speeds the compost process is a bonus! I too am still looking into it.

Love your Franky!
This is my Waldo, image.jpeg
I do very few pics of me

God that was really scary for a minute or two there. So now that I’m not terrified of going near my flock anymore, here’s some frivolous chicken porn. Lol!
