I am looking for the following:
Russian Orloff
Dun Laced Wyandotte
Salmon Faverolle
Red Laced Wyandotte
Lavender Oprington

Should I try to find these locally or try and order them from someplace online? Most have min. orders above 15 except mypetchicken, but I didn't see what I was looking for on there.

Try to fin them locally. Shipping chicks in from online orders can stress them out and cause them to perish. For the healthiest chicks, try to get them at a feed store of chicken swap. I you order 15, do you have room to care for them all?

We are hoping to find a place with an acre or more and the current place we are really interested in has 5 acres. I guess if we did order 15 we could, but we just wanted to start out with 3 this year then add 2 the next.

Meyer and My Pet Chicken let you order three. Ideal has a minimum order of $25--which can certainly be less than 15 birds.

I suspect you will need to order online, and from more than one place---I can't imagine anyplace that would have the specific breeds and colors you specify.

I've had very few loses with shipped chicks. Order when the weather is good--not to cold, not too hot--and you'll have better luck.

ETA: most feed stores I know of have their chicks shipped in. They will have similar losses to having them shipped to you. The only benefit is that you don't have to deal with any potential dead chicks. Buying from feed stores in general is no kinder to the chicks. Regarding chicken swaps. BE VERY CAREFUL! Chicken swaps are not conducive to good biosecurity practices.

Sounds like you want rare/unusual chickens. You aren't going to find these at your neighborhood feed store. I'd look for breeders. Have you been to the Where am I/Where are you section here to find your local group of chicken enthusiasts? That's a good place to start.
