Need a BIG question answered fast!!!! OH NO!!!!!!!!

Went out searching for her when i got home today. Didnt find her. But i am almost positive as to where she is staying. My neighbor has a heavely wooded area right behind his house and just before it is a nice secluded pond. He said that he saw a small single duck out there. But she got scared off when my sisters dogs ( who run around all through the woods) scared her. He said he saw her fly but not far. So im thinking she flew to a tree or something to hide till night. I have made sort of a makshift cage. I put it out on top of a van, the male is in one side, completely secure, and the other side is open for her to get in. Im hoping in the morning they will both wake up and she will hear him and come flying over.

My sister is off tomorrow so she is going to watch it for me. Hope she decideds to come back. I think where there cage is there is to much activity. The cats walk past it all the time. I heard her fly over this morning so she is hanging around but i just cant find her. GRRR! Maybe tomorrow.

Will he accept a new mate IF I find him one. Its not easy finding single females. Or should i just try and get rid of him and get another pair. How long can he stay on his own without him getting really depressed. Idont know what to do here. Also what if i get another female and mine by some miracle shows back up? Will he be able to handle two females. Ugh! What a bad way to start out with new ducks.

yes you can find him a new female, and if they other comes back then you can trio them up. you might look up ozawkiebantams and send him a pm to see if his friends (lickteigs i believe if i spelled it right)have raised any mandarin ducklings this year yet, they have a really nice set up and should only be an hour and a half away.

Okay thanks you! Do you know what the best time of day to look for her is. I have been looking at around 4pm. I know its a long shot to look for her and hope to find her but you never know. Will she sleep in a tree at night or in the water or on land. And is it even possible she has survived this long? Sorry for asking so many questions, I am very worried about her.

Considering the fact that you have a natural sounding wood duck habitat i would think she has efficient food/water, also considering mandarins still have the majority of their instincts she should be able to fend for herself and fly from predators. I really don't know where she will sleep. Most likely in the middle of open (calm) water. or an overhanging branch.
