Need a feeder that is rat and squirrel proof

This is very true. Treadle feeders can be adjusted for bantams but without a big difference in weight and reach between the hen and the vermin it is hard to keep the vermin out. Sparrows, yes, you can adjust the spring tension and keep them out.

Squirrels, no way. The squirrels can defeat the treadle because the treadle step has to be close in for a bantam and a couple of squirrels will weigh nearly as much as a bantam. IF you have just a few bantams they can quickly learn to eat with another hen but a pure bantam flock is going to need the vermin fenced out.

Especially squirrels. They tend to push their way inside unless the spring tension is set to around 6 pounds on the treadle, trapping themselves which is good but as with all trapping methods a new squirrel will move in eventually if you trap out the original population.
