Need A Hatch Buddy.. Anyone Setting Today 2/26?

I just candled four day 18 eggs and I'm slightly worried. They still have veins (kinda dark shelled so I don't see movement) and good air cells. I was expecting a solid dark egg except for the air cell, there is still some space at the pointy end (in the two I can see in).....normal? I know they still have a couple days to go so I'm really hoping. Also, one egg (again, veined and good air cell!) has a bit of crusty stuff on the side - looks like dried ooze, just a little and does not smell at all. THOUGHTS????

I forgot that my eggs are supposed to hatch tomorrow and they were still in the turner. My humidity has been crazy and I'll be lucky if anything hatches.

My lockdown is Thursday and I don't have a hatching tray. Any ideas?? Thought about cutting up a plastic storage box and putting in a wire bottom to maintain air flow around the eggs. Should I put something over the wire?? Does anyone have another idea for a hatching tray?? Thanks. .......stan

Going into lockdown tomorrow. I weighed the 6 Ameraucana eggs today and 1 did not loose any 'water weight'

The other five are at 1.6 oz. Not giving up hope though! I did mark it just in case...then I'll know next time. (this is my first hatch with eggs from my own wee flock)

I go from being excited to being nervous. All over eggs/chicks. It's so small in the scheme of things but then we all need some joy!

My 4yo grandson will be over on Friday and stay until we see chicks. He acts like he's excited! Gonna bring his special sleeping bag to stay at "Nena's". Yep, gonna be fun!

I don't think you need to worry. What day are you on? Anyone pip yet? If there is no pips and you can work quickly just take the turner out. If you have pips already happening, just make sure to turn the turner off. The bad thing about leaving the turner is that they fall and get stuck in the holes.

Good Luck on your hatch!

On the question about the maxi vs a sponge..... I tried it with this last hatch for the first time and was very satisfied on how it held humidity. I will definitely adopt this method for my future hatches.

I'm on day 23 in my Eco 20 with my first hatch for this season. They are Marans chicks and so far I have 7 chicks

, although I think one is not going to make it

. I have a few eggs in the bator that I will leave for a few more days

since I'm seeing some Marans chicks take longer than the norm to hatch.

I then have 24 Ameraucana BBS eggs in my hova bator that will go into lock-down on Thursday.

I'm so excited to see what I get!

Hey thanks. I did turn the turner off, but I did not take it out. I've never used an incubator with a turner. I always hand turn them. I guess I will go take them out now. They should start to hatch tomorrow. If they are going to hatch at all.
