Need A Hatch Buddy.. Anyone Setting Today 2/26?

Lock down is monday for my batch too looks like a few of us are hatching together.

I saw a thread where someone said they used maxi pads so I am going to try that method during lock down to boost up the humidity.
I am trying not to be too overly excited but I am finding it difficult as we grow closer and closer to the 17th which is hatch day .

Locking down on Monday as well!!!! YAY!

Sponges vs. Maxipads???? Anyone used both and prefer one over the other?

Lockdown is tomorrow! Can't wait. I still have 12 moving and grooving

Oh i messed up lock down is Wednesday. I have tried both sponge and maxi pads and liked the maxi pads better. The gel in the pad held the water a lot better and did not dry out as fast. Now I need to figure out how to separate all the eggs in the bator when I lock them down. I am going to see if we have some small pieces of wood to make different compartments for them. This way I can keep them separate after they hatch and then get the like ones in the brooder pen.
going to candle tomorrow I think to see how they are doing.

Sorry about your birds and their house. I only have eggs in the bator at this point so I don't have any advice....just a good luck wish!

Thank you! Someone on the "disease" topic suggested Wazine, so I searched that instead of de-wormer and got SOOOO much good info! I love BYC! I got my Wazine today and will dose my ladies in their morning water. I'll try ivermectin next week if I can get enough info on the dosing by then! I'll also get some food grade diatomaceous earth to use on the floor, next boxes and areas that they use as wallows. Happiness is healthy birds!

I use ivermectin. tell me how big of a bird and I will tell you the dose.

well lock down is in 2 more days. Now the suspense is going to kill me LOL

I am going to come up with some sort of dividers for the bator tomorrow so I can keep everyone straight when they start hatching. I still need to come up with a brooder. I have another bator I will put them in once they hatch. Or might leave them in the LG for the day or 2 they can be in there till i decide where I want to put them. Might use my garden tub. I do not use it much anyway so will just layer it with newspaper and then paper towels so it will be easier to clean up.

well I will figure it out tomorrow.

Thanks Magnet! My dilemma is that the pour-on ivermectin comes in HUGE containers and costs over $100. The injectable/oral is $37 but I'd like to use it topical? The paste is cheapest of all but I haven't read anything about people using that on their birds. My birds are standard sized layers, I can't guess their weights. Since they got wormed today, they had to be obstinate and lay more eggs in one day than they have in any single day for 3 weeks!!!! It is so hard to throw away good eggs.

I use iveron. tractor supply sells a smaller quantity. it is ivermectin. its a liquid. use an eyedropper. standard size layers-6 drops. back of neck-under wings-vent area. last fall the price for the quantity I bought was fifteen dollars. use it once every 3 months. works great. don't think I would use it if you just wormed. would be afraid of an overdose.

This must be the one you use:

My store didn't have it that size/concentration. Maybe they could order it for me? I'll wait a few days after dosing with Wazine, but they are different medications, so I'm not too worried about overdose.

I would probably get something ready BEFORE they come. lol I don't usually leave the chicks in there very long cause they play soccer with the rest of the eggs and they get hungry, so once theres about 5 +/- i'll put them in there small box then transfer the whole lot of them into the BIG brooder box. gotta add a thanks to ya, you reminded me that my brooder is too big for a small amount of chicks and that I gotta get the small box ready. Thanks ya the BIG box is like 3 foot x 7 foot. Way to big for 5 chicks LOL. I'll get the smaller (3'x2.5') box ready for them.

tomorrow! lol

I thought Monday was lock down , but actually tomorrow is lock down but looks like everything is still looking good, I decided this hatch not to candle any after first candling and I haven't touched them since kept the temp between 99.5 - 99.7 but in the next incubator / hatcher I dont have a fan in it so it will be around 101.1 - 101.5 holding steady. 70 % humidity I have been running it for 4 days to be sure.

So any day now we will be rocking and rolling I hope
