Hi I'm back, I feel that I've been away for so long, it took for ever to catch up on reading! lol
ok of the 133 eggs that I set, 22 of the (84) Delaware eggs that we got from someone else, were clear
lost 1 EE, it was cracked BUT it had a chick in there?? and lost 1 RIR, it was porus and clear. And I got more that look iffy, like they're developing a blood ring, I noted which ones they were to look at again and probably toss them. down 24 eggs which means I'm down to 3 'bators. I'm going to set more eggs in there soon...
too Funny on the sending me casserols so I don't stave during hatch. lol
and someone said something about candling ALL the eggs??? I did candle ALL 133! took stinkin' 2 hours! but I only removed 2 eggs at a time, candled one, noted what I saw next to "it" number on a piece of paper and did the next egg then put them back and took out 2 more. yes all the eggs were/are numbered and I have 8 pieces of paper numbered 1-133. when I was ready to candle, next to each egg number on the paper I put the date, then I could just write what I seen. on the ones that were clear, I wrote clear, removed and took the egg out. some I seen veining but no movement so I wrote veining. if I seen veining AND movement I wrote movement. then you have the ones that looked wierd I wrote what I saw with a ?? next to it. hope this helps.

Sorry I missed this. I got my Lavender eggs from Yvonne in Florida and the Cuckoos/favorelles fromRocking G.--can't remember where. I've also got Lavenders coming from New York.

When I candle I set the tray of eggs on my heating pad with a towel folded over it. The eggs get covered on top and the heat from the pad keep them nice and toasty. I don't worry so much about candling with my doing it this way. Same thing if I'm helping a chick out of the shell. A damp paper towel on top of the heating pad and the egg on top. They are the best bators!
they are the best bators! I usually give them 9 but this girl is a little bit larger than an old english game hen. I put a sizzle on duck eggs last year. the ducks grew so fast that they ended up sitting under AND on top of her at the same time. the poor girl had quite a hand full.
I am sure she can handle quite a few.. My silkie Maple hatched out 4 HUGE duck eggs last spring. She had herself spread out wide. It was so cute. The eggs were 4x the size of her eggs

so imagine how nervous you guys with the first hatches are. picture this--you make it to day 19 but you are moving. unplug the bator and drive to a new town. yikes

nhnanna has moved but does not have internet hooked up yet. she asked me to tell you guys how she made out with these eggs.
she drove 1 hour with13 eggs on day 19 in her van. the bator has no windows. she plugged it in when she arrived. 11 out of 13 hatched!!! she opened the 2 that didn't hatch and they were quitters. congrats cheryl!

you could always put the turner in, put the best eggs in it. take the rest and put them in the space between the front of the turner and the wall of the bator. I hatched quail eggs that way last year.
