keeps us informed. I just realized mine start hatching the 17th and have not candles either I was thinking I still had some time to go. WOW not sure where these past few weeks went to but it was fast. Went out and got me 2 flashlights today. Well got a mini from home depot and saw another one on sale so can never not have enough. I am going to candle some tonight and see what I have. I am hoping for some EE's on this hatch.

I haven't candled my Ameraucanas either. Still debating on that one. Let us know how your candling goes.

glad to hear everyone is doing well. can't wait till next week to hear how the hatching goes.

last night I checked on my hen on eggs. she had peeled the shell off one egg. the baby was dead. it was a showgirl. there were 2 cochin X eggs and 2 other showgirl eggs left. the showgirl eggs seemed too light.
this morning she got off the eggs to eat. I held the 2 good eggs to keep them warm while she ate. I put 1 up to each ear and heard tap-tap-tap. when she sat back down I gave her eggs back.
tonight when I got home from work I found 2 chicks. 1 blue, 1 black and white. they came from the tapping eggs. not a big hatch but my first this year. I bought fifty pounds of chick starter for them. gee I hope I don't run out.
I have 19 good eggs in the bator due next weekend. I have 2 broody hens on wooden eggs. I am considering giving them the eggs when they go into lockdown and refilling the bator.

Off topic, but while I'm on here....

Any good broad spectrum de-wormer anti-parasite recommendations? Something relatively cheap? Something easy to get, and where would I get it? My hens and rooster are looking sad and I'd like to dose them. Especially after spending a couple days in their flooded coop.

Most seem ok. There has been some diarrhea and some formed poops, my rooster's feathers are breaking off half-length. One hen is getting thinner over the last 4 weeks and seems to have a large crop. I did post on the "diseases" index too, but I'm hoping for more suggestions. I was going to wait and do it right when I got my new coop built, but they are starting to look pathetic and I thought I should hit them now rather than let them get weak. Thanks guys!
