Hello-
Four years ago I adopted a rooster and a hen that were about to be killed. I never planed on becoming a lover of my darlings but I did. Sadly two weeks ago a opossum got into the coop & killed my sweet Henny, leaving the rooster Boss all alone. I think I should get him a companion, no? They were both RI Reds & if I get him a lady should it be the same breed? Does anyone have any ideas where I can find one? I've looked online & they all seem to be chicks for sale, with a min. of 5- Our coop is small, maybe I could have 2 hens...what is best?
Please advise, I can see how sad Boss is...
Thanks

aawww poor guy....

have you checked craigs list??

post in the farm and garden explaining that your roo lost his lady and is lonley....

i think you'd be safe with any breed.. but if he's large fowl, i wouldn't get him a banty lady friend..
if you've got room, 2 lady friends would probly make him a very happy rooster..

have you read about quarantine procedures and introducing new birds??
there's threads on here about it.. i don't have a link to any inparticular...

good luck with your matchmaking...
