We ordered eggs a few months ago from two places to hatch in an incubator. We ordered all marans, but they threw in some extra chickens and didn't leave a list of what the possiblities could be. We had two 'mystery' chickens, since we ended up with 2 seramas (male and female), three maran roos, and 5 maran females. We figured out one of the mystery chickens is a faverolle rooster (beatuiful bird). And now we have this last one that could be a variety of different breeds.

It looks like a rooster - but since they're all 10 weeks (at least) old, and all the other males are crowing, and this one isn't, we can't be sure. It also looks like a Welbar (a sex link), and due to what it looked like at birth it must be a female if it is a welbar. However, it could also be a bantam since it has feathered feet.

No, it doesn't crow. And the faverolle is always jumping on it trying to breed, so I'm really leaning towards it being a female even though it has a comb and side-flaps all grown already. Could whatever the breed it is grow and develop faster than the rest, or is it really just a rooster with some... gender identity issues?

These are some pictures of it. It's very beautiful, docile, sweet... doesn't act aggressive towards ANY of the other chickens except the faverolle who's always chasing after it. Lets us pick it up and doesn't squack too much either. Very quiet bird.

It does have feathered feet as well.. any ideas?

Any idea if it's a cockerel or pullet? We have too many cockerels and have to get rid of the extras. Which is why I'm really hoping it's a pullet so we don't have to sell it.

He's a mixed breed cockerel. That much comb at this young age, plus the hackle and saddle feathers starting, plus the reddish color on the wings....those all say male.

Well that's a bit unfortunate... We have 30 hens. We were planning on keeping 2 regular roosters and the serama pair (not counting the little rooster as one of the 2 since he only pairs with his own breed). Maybe we can keep this one since it tends to be 10 hens per rooster, and this little guy is extremely docile and doesn't fight... let's just hope so anyway, would be a shame to sell him with the other 2 marans.
