I have four chickens around 22-24 weeks old. One Leghorn, two Barred Rocks and one Americana. They have not yet started laying. This is my first experience with chickens (I have had them about 8 weeks).
The Leghorn is normally the dominant hen, but yesterday I noticed she was acting a little lethargic. Today she is still not acting normal, and I noticed several more feathers in the coop than usual. I do not see any visible signs of distress or illness. Her eyes are clear and no abnormal poop. Normally when I bring food or approach the coop she is right up front, but she has been staying back and not eating like she normally does.
It has been very hot, but the others do not seem bothered by the heat and leghorns are supposed to handle heat well. I make sure they have plenty of fresh water and fresh food. I give them kitchen scraps, but I only give them things that I found on the forum threads considered to be safe.
Any suggestions or ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
