need a QUIET breed of ducks

I absolutely love my Muscovy ducks...they are quiet, not flighty or easily spooked. About the only real noise they make is the splashing and diving in the pond that they do. Also, I really like their unique look. They resemble something very exotic and ancient to me. Good luck to you!

well, now that i decided on muscovy's i've found that probably the best deal is for ten birds for about 75 bucks shipped from country hatchery. i live in california. is that going to be a problem with shipping them that great of a distance? i read that muscovy's don't ship well. also, i've found that us fish and wildlife doesn't distingush between wild and domestic feral muskovy's so are they legal to raise? i am really starting to like the idea of muscovy's especially as pest control to keep the flies down in the summer months but don't want the duck police showing up at my door and fining me. stranger things have happened.

I hope I don't sound stupid. I only know how these things work in Texas. I would call my local extension office. They would know if it was okay for me to own muscovies. Also, if you live in a suburban area you'll need to make sure your neighborhood allows muscovies. There is a lot of controversy about muscovies, so it's always best to check first.

Have you considered cortunix quail? The females are very quiet.
