Hello. I am getting super frustrated, and I don't know what to do from here. My chickens keep getting tapeworms. I have treated them with Valbazen, and followed the recommended schedule. It DOES kill the worms very effectively, but the wild bird population on my property keeps bringing the worms back.

I have tried the natural preventatives (Herbal wormer, DE, etc.), and they help a little bit... but the chickens get so infested that it isn't enough.

I wormed them in October, but at least one of my hens is infested again. I love having chickens, but if this is going to be an ongoing battle, I don't know if I can have them. What would you do in this situation?

Hi, I usually add a little apple cider vinegar to the drinking water and I never had any parasites and mine are completely free ranged only going to the coops to sleep. My grandma used to do this with her hens and I have learned it from her. But if you worried there is several product on the market what you can buy. Here is some names hope it's helps. If you have a very bad case of parasites ( what I hope you don't) your vet can give something stronger like ivermectin or something.
I also add multivitamin in wintertime.
Don't panick, there is always a solution .

Tapeworm is an ongoing problem that has to be dealt with by medicating, but also by cleaning up droppings and perhaps isolation in a cage during treatment, and it helps for them to be on fresh grass. Valbazen can be used after withholding feed for several hours, and using it often, but but Zimectrin Gold or medicines containing praziquantel are very good.
