Need Advice!! Egg trying to hatch and I dont have an incubator!

Yay! 2 keets saved, good job

. MacGyvering a hatcher set up as close to perfect as possible, at the perfect time worked out perfectly for you... and I really didn't have much advice to give you, other than keeping it warm enough and moist enough. And obviously you did an excellent job with both. Let's hope the 3rd keet makes it too. Keets usually do pretty good at creating enough of their own heat when they are that close to hatching , as long as they are fairly warm. It's the moisture part that can be an issue. I've never tried the mixing bowl trick before, but years ago I did have a few keets hatch out on their own in a nest in the sun after the Momma Hen got off of the nest and left a few slower eggs behind, and I have also taken unhatched eggs from an abandoned nest that were close to hatching and put them in a moist towel on top of another towel that was on top of heating pad on low... and they hatched out healthy, so whatever works, lol.

Good to know that Turkey Hens are too heavy for Guinea eggs tho, I have 3 Broody Turkey Hens that insist on hoarding any Guinea egg that they can roll under themselves, ALL DAY LONG, lol... it's a daily battle 3-5 a day to collect my Guinea eggs from that pen. They have figured out that when they see me coming they better move their butts tho, but I worry they are going to crack some of the eggs getting up and jumping off the pile of egs. So far so good, but now I'm convinced that I am not going to use them for broodies, ever lol.

I agree your newly hatched keet once it's dry should be ok with the 2 day old keet, they will both appreciate the company and someone to snuggle with. There's not much size difference in just 2 days, and as long as the newest keet isn't weak they should be fine together. The older keet may start biting at the new keet's toes, so you can sprinkle crumbles on the brooder floor to keep it preoccupied if if that starts happening (toes look like worms to keets, I guess).

Anyway, congrats, hope you have success with the 3rd egg!

Thanks PeepsCA! I was wondering, do I put a little lid of water in there? I've been dipping their beaks, I had just put one in there today for the first one, I've just been dipping his beak. I was afraid of the newest one squatting and falling in it and getting wet. Do you usually put water in for newly hatched keets right off the bat?
And yes, I wouldn't use your turkeys to hatch. I thought I'd let Gobbles try it, since she has never hatched any. My goodness, it was a Mess! And now, she has hijacked the new guinea nest. bless her heart :)

Do you have a handful of marbles or even some clean stones/small rocks that you could add to the lid of water? That will still allow the keets to drink but not fall in and wallow in the water and end up soaking wet.

Crossing my fingers for the 3rd egg...

Thanks for the help PeepsCA! I did go ahead and put the lid of water in there. I didn't have any marbles for anything I could use, but I put it in and watched them for a bit. They did fine. They seem to be drinking on their own. Cute little buggers! I just love 'em!

So, the 3rd egg is now peeping! Gosh oh Gosh, I hope I can keep the humidity up and have a healthy hatch! Keep your fingers crossed!

I'd just spray it with a fine mist spray bottle every time you walk by or check on it, lol. That way the egg gets dampened fairly often, and everything around it stays moist too. Just a light mist tho, don't soak the egg.

Come on baby keet # 3!

Thank you PeepsCA, the little guy has cracked the shell, he still hasn't pipped yet. Do I still mist it? I have my spray bottle. I did mist it just a little. I just want to make sure I should still do it. As long as the egg doesn't get soaked, you think he will be fine? I have been keeping a warm damp wash cloth in there with him. I also lightly touch the egg while my hands are still wet with the warm water. The egg doesn't get soaked, just a couple damp areas from my fingers. Man.. I soooooo want this little guy/girl to hatch ;-) I sure do appreciate you for helping me with advice.

Yep, I would keep misting lightly, even after the keet starts making hatch progress (especially then). It will help keep the inner membrane moist and the shell softer so the keet has less of a struggle while trying to hatch.

Okie dokie! will do

. The crack looks bigger, and he/she is still peeping. Hopefully we will know something soon. Thanks again PeepsCA!
