So I came home from work and found all 4 of my hens with dried blood on their beaks. One worse then the others. 3 of them are just superficial and I'm not concerned about them. My Maple is a little worse off. Seems the very tip of the top beak broke off. Her dried blood area is larger and stretches across her beak. She seems to be in some pain as she has been standing fluffed up, tail down, eyes closed at certain times. She is drinking, eating and getting around fine. I made a warm mash from their pellets, they all ate. She immediately ate meal worms. I just cant tell how deep the injury goes. I didn't want to stress her out anymore today so I will check in the morning. I didn't put anything on their beaks, I was afraid to stress them out more. It's been very windy today so maybe the wind spooked them. Seems like they got their beaks caught in the hardware cloth. I've seen it happen with them before. I've attached some photos. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advanceA

Personally, I would leave the beaks alone. They may be sore for a few days, but let them heal on their own.
Once she's not so tender, you can take an nail file and smooth off the end of her beak if she needs it.
I agree, it looks like they got the beaks in the hardware cloth. Could have been spooked or possibly reaching through trying to get at something. Since it was windy, do you have Maple seed pods whirling about? Those little helicopter seeds? Mine will go crazy trying to catch those or get them through fencing every year. Grass or weeds too at times.

I'm in New England so it is too early for the helicopter things. I figured since they're all eating and drinking that it probably isn't that serious. But since these are my first hens I got a little nervous. Especially since I wasn't home and I dont know exactly what happened. I'm thinking they got spooked by an animal. We have a couple neighborhood cats that come thru. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't more serious than I thought. I'll see how they are in the morning. Thank you for the advice! I really appreciate it!
