because he wont eat itBecause of stomach issues or because he won't eat it?
he is fed usually twice a day, hes a Jack Russel terrier, he is given a few treats, he had wet and dry...My philosophy is that if he is not eating, he is not hungry enough. Is he free fed or one or twice a day? What size dog? Is he given any treats or snacks? Wet food of just dry food?
he gets half a tin of dog food at about 12 then at about 6.30 her gets 3 quaters of a cup of dry...How much are you giving him at each feeding?
He used to have the wet food mixed and refused to eat it...Wet food is way smellier and tastier than dry food so if he is getting the wet food first, he is probably thinking why brother with the dry, but wet food only is not good for a dogs teeth. Take a look at his weight but I am thinking you could reduce the amount of wet food and maybe even dry as well, especially if you are switching to a high protein, grain free. (My 20lb pugs eat 1/2 cup of kibble with carrots and 1/2 of a dog bone total for the day.) Russels are usually 14-18lbs?
Mix the wet food into the dry food instead of serving it separate. With it mixed he will eat it all. Once he is used to eating the mix you can slowly ween him off the wet food if you want or just keep it.
Feeding raw is actually a lot cheaper than buying commercial dog food. At least for me it is with three dogs. Two American Pit Bull Terriers and one Rottweiler. The smallest dog weighs 61.8... None of my dogs have the runs which I was suprised about only because two of the three have issues. The Rottweiler has a really sensitive stomach, certain foods especially with corn, give him an upset stomach. One of my Pit Bulls has a lot of nutritional deficiencies due to being given away from his mom at two weeks old and starved till we got him at four weeks. He is also a VERY picky dog. We have only found two different commercial dog foods he will actually eat. If you go to local butchers, they usually give you a good price on the meat you will need, especially most of the "junk" meat that normally wouldn't sell great in stores (kidneys, hearts, ect.) My dogs right now get raw for breakfast, fruits/veggies for a mid day snack, and Taste Of The Wild (Pacific Stream) dog food for dinner. You should look up "TheBullyMethod" or "k9-karma" on youtube. She has recipes you can look at. I started off and still continue to use her recipes.I have decided against harringtons, the ingreidients have been changed and maize is now the first ingredients, i have decided to try skinners field&trial, because i get get it local to me. I would like to feed raw but i think it would be expensive and i think it would give my dog the runs...
