Need advice on fertile eggs

I have never tried hatching eggs I've refrigerated but many people have and had a great hatch. You won't know unless try. Yes, if you're goung to try hatching them, bring them to room temp now. Good luck!

I suggest you get plenty of sleep before hatch day because as it gets closer you'll be up checking for pips at all hours and hovering over your incubator.

It would be great to have you over in the October HAL!

My incubator will be here on the 10th, I swear it was supposed to be shipped prime I have 2 pullets I'm sure have fertile eggs, the other two just started mating but one I'm iffy on her eggs. She usually gets mad at the rooster so I'm not even sure if he's getting the job done. I'm not putting many of her eggs, maybe two at the most. If they do good, I have an unlimited supply since she lays daily.

I saw your turkens and I absolutely love them! I had a turken before and they are one of my most favorite breeds but getting them in my location is a rarity.

Thank you, I do love the Turkens as well. We don't get too many in the feed stores so I had to get eggs shipped or go pick some up in order to have a whole flock. Since you have an incubator you can always try that option to get some.

I bought the farm innovator 4250 directly on Amazon, I think it's sold by farm innovators. I'm not sure what happened but oh well. I didn't know there was an incubator warehouse. I'm going to look into it right now.

Hopefully I can find someone who's good with shipping or local to get more fertile eggs from so I can get more breeds in my laying flock.

Try the threads here for breeds you like. A lot of folks ship eggs but don't advertise a lot.

I had a Welsummer, she was the sweetest girl ever. Haven't tried Orpingtons because they're too fluffy for our summer temps but the colors! You can get a darn rainbow with those! Good luck in your search. You might also check Craigslist in Spring in your area, or ebay I've heard is a way to find what you're looking for too.

You can order ALL those breeds including Turken from several hatcheries... even sexed and disease free. If you do have anything shipped by an individual... please do so only if they are NPIP and doing it legally as it protects us all, our birds, and our rights to keep them.

My Welsummer was aloof at best. Orps are indeed pretty but over rated in the friendliness department and really not superb layers for the amount of feed they eat as well as prone to fatty liver hemorrhagic disease. The one I had that was human friendly was not really flock friendly. Of course every bird is an individual!

I did like having Turken in my flock. They seemed to be overall great birds... though my experience was not really long term.

Craigslist farm and garden section *can* be good if you are familiar with the breed you are looking for and good at discerning if the folks know what they are talking about or if they are poorly informed and spreading it to you. I got a fantastic lesson in this that costed me $20 each per straight run chick, 45 minute drive each way in my Suburban (not free fuel), the time spent growing them out, and so on... that ended up being barnyard cross! My gut told me something was not quite right but my brain said you've come all this way.

Also note that some things which ship through Amazon prime do state they won't be delivered in 2 days... often things that must ship by ground or that are coming from another seller.

I got some of my stuff cheaper at incubator warehouse than Amazon. I would shop there again!

For disclosure I hatch at high elevations the problem with following incubator instructions is there are to many differentials that can cause issues, the instructions are for sea level on all of the incubators from what I have read. Also you source of hatching eggs can affect hatching, eggs hatched at one elevation will have more or less density depending where they were laid, along with if they were shipped, they need to rest 24 hours and check the air cells as a lot of times they are wonky.

I do like that incubator, just not the turner it comes with so I got the incuturn one and having them laid down reduced the 90% mal positioned I was getting down to 1-2 a hatch

The house would have less temperature fluctuations, and make sure the incubator is not in direct sunlight..

I'll try the turner this time and if it isn't good enough, I'll try something else.

It said prime shipping on the order, but oh well. It gives me more time to collect eggs. I have 11 right now, I'm hoping to get about 20. My barred rocks eggs are small so I'm only taking 2 of hers so I'm not wasting eggs everyone can eat if the eggs have issues during incubation.

Thank you for those tips. Im putting everything in our spare room, it is pretty perfect with temperature.

Only thing I worry about in our house is my cat. Once the chicks hatch in the incubator I'm going to have to lock him out because he will definitely jump on top of it and try to get them through the windows.
