Need advice! Please help.

So my Cochin hen has been sitting on eggs for a bit. I went out, fed, and checked on her. I found 1 dead chick and I'm missing an egg. Now I'm down to 6 eggs.... also, I cant find any remnants of any shells. Lastly, my hen now sounds very congested. What is going on?!?! I'm a first time chicken owner...

Dead chicks happen. It could be nothing. As for the missing shell, Mom cleans that stuff up. It’s nature.

The congested sound you speak of could just be her encouraging the other chicks to come out. If she isn’t a crazy broody (if she allows you near her), you can be sure that she has water to drink. Of course, make sure that it is not deep enough for the chicks to drown.

How long is 'a bit'?
Did you give her fertile eggs all at the same time?
