I have been raising 6 flying mallards for the first time and they are already 12 weeks old, beautiful birds. They have always stayed together as a group from day one, but for the past 3 days I’ve noticed my little hen, Daisy all by herself outside of the pool and wandering around.

Today I think I found out why… when I was watching them, she finally decided to jump in the pool and my drake immediately swam over and tried to ride her! She of course freaked out trying to squirm away and flew back out of the pool.

I’m just curious if this is going to stop soon? Are the boys just high in testosterone right now or something? Should I worry about my little hen always being alone?

Hope some experienced duck raisers can help me out

Watch a bit, sometimes drakes will pick on one duck, and she needs to be protected. Some options might be to time him out for a bit, or time her out, but see how he acts around her, or if both drakes ever try to grab her at once. Ducks can be drowned, battered, even have bones broken.

Well I've noticed its just the one drake who is a bully (and hes never been like this before this past week). He will also nibble everyones butts to make them back out of his way, and insist on being the only one to get something (telling everyone that its "his" bug ect..)

Amiga, I tried giving him a "time out" but I couldn't catch him

ALSO... it seems now like everyone kinda picks on Daisy because she is so distant when she finally joins in they are like, "hey who are you again?" -pick pick-

Maybe I'm just watching the ducks too close and blowing it out of proportion

If you are having trouble catching him, wait until they go into their duck house at night and grab him from there, maybe? He does need some time out.
