Need advice with Tension/Migraine Headaches

Migraines are a bummer, especially when they last more than a day! I feel your pain.

I try to stay away from dietary triggers (chocolate & cheese are huge for me). Sometimes sleeping too much or a drastic change in sleep patterns can be a trigger. Excedrin often works if I take it early enough. Hot showers, excellent. And of course the Uncle Fester style vise on the head always works if you are desperate enough. Good luck.

I was getting migraines and it turned out I have TMJ. My dentist made me a thing to wear to keep my jaw in alignment and my teeth from grinding and it has helped tremendously.

I too suffer with the extreme Migraines right now and have had them almost continously for the past 4 years. I have been going to a neurologist for 3 of those 4 years and they still haven't figured out what is causing mine. I also have some other issues such as seizures and I take the Depakote 500mg I have to take 5 of these pills per day everyday along with 2 100mg Topomax and still have Migraines on an average 5 out of every 7 days. The pain meds don't work either and the Dr's have pretty much told me other than taking pain shots I would just have to learn how to live with the pain.

You MUST try some alternative treatment. Go find an acupuncturist, a chiropractor, SOMETHING! You can't just endure it...that's awful.

I've tried the chiropractor on several occasions and they don't help at all, will have to see if I can locate any acupuncturist around here, its to the point I will try almost anything to get rid of these things.

Been there more times than I can count and have begged my SO to just shoot me but he refused. Would have done it myself but couldn't see to load the dang gun and i'm not kidding.

I started getting migraines when I was 8 yrs old, getting a few each week and missing a lot of school (I would get the visual disturbances, vomitting, and excrutiating pain). I am now 36 (whoa, did I just say that?) and I maybe get 1 per month (if even) , usually in conjunction with my cycle starting (sorry if that's TMI).

The only thing I could do was find my triggers. No caffine (including no chocolate), no dairy, no nitrates (bacon, sausage, hot dogs, deli-type lunchmeats), no MSG, and nothing containing red dye. It really restricts my diet, but most of the things on my list aren't healthy anyhow, so my body was really letting me know that they were not good for me.

I tried chiropractic care, massage, drugs (to which I had many an adverse reaction), and meditation. Getting the triggers out of my system was IT. When I actually have one, I have found that exercising helps.

Boyd, with everything going on in your life right now, your body is definitely having a stressed out hissy-fit. I will be praying that you can find something LEGAL to help you through this very rough patch.

I know you can't slow down right now, but make sure you do take care of yourself, too. Your wife, children, and chickens definitely need you now, but ultimately, you have to trust that God is in control and hand the reigns over to him. If you don't, all of this stress is going to eat you alive (which already seems to be happening) and it's going to get worse. Do something special for yourself every day. That doesn't mean catching up with BYC, no matter how addicted you may be (sorry, folks!) . Take a long walk, take a bubble bath, jump on a trampoline, do something that is 100% not related to anyone else or anyone else's needs and recharge your batteries for 10-15 minutes (or longer, if possible). Then come back, hug the person closest to you, and jump back in with both feet.

I wish I could offer you more help/advice/insight. My stomach curls everytime I read about what is going on in your life (the hard stuff, not the good stuff), and if that's how a complete stranger reacts, how much more you must be hurting and trying to hold it all together. I'm praying for healing and the lifting of burdens for you.

Prayers and hugs,
Amy
