So in the spring I hatched 8 turkey poults and I raised them in a tractor. Once summer hit I started letting them outside of the tractor to free roam and they loved it and It worked out really good. Come fall I let them outside one day and the farmer that owns the field next to my house started to harvest the field and all 8 of my turkeys disappeared. 2 hen returned. This was about a month ago. Due to the nights getting colder I moved them into a building with my chickens but today while I was gone one of them got out and I’m not sure but I think one of my dogs killed it. Very sad to have gone from 8 to 1. Was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I could get me last remaining hen to go broody because I would love to have her hatch and raise some new poults. She will be a year old in the spring I’m pretty sure she has never laid and she is the only turkey I currently have. Thank you!

Unless you get a tom to go with the hen, she will lay infertile eggs.

Most turkey hens will naturally go broody once they have laid a sufficient clutch of eggs. Each hen has her own magic number. It can be anywhere from 8 to 20.

She will likely start laying eggs next spring.
