We hatched eggs about 6 months ago and thought we were getting Indian Runner ducks, but we got mix breed ducks. One of them is a crested Indian Runner with some VERY large breed - it is about 10 lbs! three days ago, I went out into the yard and is was squatted down and unable to lift it's body, it's neck lay limp. Otherwise, it seems ok - it is drinking when offered water and pooping. I seperated it from the flock and it has drank every day. I did not eat until today and just a few pecks. It still can not lift it's body and it's neck is still mostly limp. One of the children threw a mushroom in the pen that day, I am not sure if that is related as only this one bird seems affected (out of a flock of 26). This duck is the largest animal in the pen, so I have pretty much ruled out trauma... Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear about your bird. Are you sure it wasn't attacked by an animal? Do you know what kind of mushroom it was? Maybe you can add some vitamins to the water.

If this duck ate most or all of the mushroom it could be the problem. did you actually see the mushroom in the pen after the kids threw it in or did it disappear like in someone ate it. Here is a link I copied from the goose thread that would also pertain to ducks if they ate something toxic,

I hope you can figure it out and your duck feels better. I found this when i googled, may take you a while to read it but also may help you decide if Botulism is the cause, I googled Limber neck in ducks. https://www.google.com/#hl=en&sclie...pw.r_qf.&fp=f3748917355b8dbb&biw=1413&bih=717
