I tried to syringe but she wouldn’t cooperate. It worked better to dip her head. I’ll make her drink some more before bed at least twice. I can check her vent, but I don’t think it’s abnormally dirty. I will try to also do DE.

Good to know she’s still alive and your still working with her. Have you recently moved coops or run or put her and the rest of your flock in a new area or environment? Do her poops look normal? If they look weird probably try administering Corid to her and the whole flock as coccidia can spread. If the poop looks fine keep doing what your doing

There is absolutely no change in anything recently. It was so weird for both of them to get sick all of a sudden. Yes, we have been doing corid. She and Scarlett had a drench last week when Scarlett was bad. I just stared the second week after the week break of it in their water today.

I wish I had an answer for you. Keep trying. This was my hen before and after when she was like yours. If I was you I would keep monitoring her and basically trying everything I can like you are doing right now, like searching up beneficial food for sick hens or something like that. Hope your hen gets better. From the top of my head maybe your hen has Marek’s Disease? I searched up “why is my chicken dizzy” and Mareks disease was one of those options. Mareks disease is very contagious and makes chickens have weak wings, neck, legs. Mareks disease can also lead to tumors in the organs, eyes, skins, etc. Hoping your flock doesn’t have Mareks disease, please search up cures for this disease.

Your hen might also have vitamin deficiency, as that was also what happened with my hen Rosie (the hen I showed in the picture.) My hen was fine after a Vitamin E, but your Hens case is probably worse. Give her a banana. Bananas are very good for chickens. They are high in Iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin B, and Vitamin C.

It sounds like she is going down hill quickly. Your options are to tube feed her 2-3 times per day fluids and very watery feed or baby bird food, or to get a necropsy on her when she dies to look for what might have been wrong. Mareks is possible, but sometimes a necropsy can surprise you. Here is a list of state vets to contact to get one if you need it:

I just lost a hen who never really looked as depressed... but whose symptoms included depression and lethargy so kinda similar. I've been obsessing about it and trying to figure out what happened. Should have necropsied her at Oregon State, but we were heartbroken and not thinking clearly...

One thing I learned last night is that hens die all the time of fatty liver disease - caused in my case from too much scratch, and also feed where the corn bits could be pecked out. A university study of necropsied hens found that 35% had a series of strokes before succumbing to a liver hemorrhage. (I'd like to note that the university only necropsied bodies of birds with liver hemorrhage specifically though, and IMO the strokes could also happen with heart attacks... another common cause of death for birds with fatty livers, among other things).

My hen was a little out of it and shuffled around slowly in the days before she passed. Reading that study made me wonder if she didn't have a stroke that week. Her flock was hanging close to her and being quiet for a little while before I picked up that something was wrong and I think maybe they knew...

Well guys she lasted through the night, and today I have her inside in a box. I’m giving her water every hour, and trying to get her to eat soft foods. I can kind of put them in her beak and she swallows them. Thanks for y’all’s suggestions. I’ll let you know if they is any improvement or decline.

Happy to know she survived through the night. I hope she heals. You seem like a good chicken owner. It’s sad chicken life doesn’t usually play out how it does in movies with happy children and happy chickens living your best life and living in peace. Chickens do get sick very often unfortunately. Again hopefully she gets cured
