can someone tell me the dosage to give my hen for calcium gluconate 23%? I believe she is egg bound she spends hours in the nest box and lays no egg, she finally goes out to walk around and she will stand in a tree with her tail down. She is eating very little and drinking very little. I have crushed up a tums and tried that 2X's with no result.

Can you tube feed? If she were mine I would tube a bunch fluids and give calcium gluconate at 100mg per 2.2.

To calculate dose - weight of bird in pounds, divide by 2.2, times 100, divide by 230. The answer to that is how many ml to give. Here is an example for a 6 pound hen:
6 / 2.2 x 100 / 230 = 1.18ml (okay to round up)

Can you feel an egg in her vent?

I felt and egg yesterday but when I felt her today she took off on me her belly is not swallon so I wanted to have the calcium ready if and when I catch her. My vet sent the calcium through my neighbor to me but didn't have the dose. He said if it didn't work he would come by and see her. I was hoping the tums would have worked by now.
