Need candling help!!!

Hello friends I need to ask a question! Ok so we are going to incubate golden comet eggs soon and I was wondering about candling.


Ok so how long after the eggs hatch can you do candling with the egg? We've never hatched eggs before so I'm kinda new to the whole thing. So any other helpful advice would be very helpful!


And also are a chickens first eggs usually fertilized? I have no idea!

I usually candle first at day 7 of incubation, then at day 12-14, and then at day 17 or so. I'm not sure if a hen's first egg is usually fertilized. I guess it depends whether the rooster mates with her or not.

I’ve had first eggs be fertile for sure. Most times, first eggs are smaller, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t develop well, but it certainly can be fertile.

My Golden comet shells were dense and dark, so I’d advise a very bright light, preferably 400+ lumens. Development can be detected within 3-4 days in some breeds, but you may have to wait 7-10 days to be sure, if the shells are darker.

I took 10 from the big girls.
I have always wondered if I have a roo hiding in banty coop ?
I put 1 egg in from them. I will give it three days then candle.
Hatch is the 3rd of September.
