Mine where from 4/5 hrs to 17hrs. The one we lost had been pipped for more than 24hrs with no progress past making a hole about 1.5cm... I would have helped it out if I hadn't had to go to work
The one I helped out was the last to pip, I started assisting after about 14hrs, of zero progress, but I had just lost the other through lack of doing something so that might have been a little soon - however the end result was good, and I'm glad I intervened when I did cause I don't think it would have made it otherwise.
I've done that in the past. They are weak at first. Sugar water, or what I use, electrolytes, really helps perk them up. I need to get pictures of my all black babies. EE's, with feathered feet! Most have feathered feet, came from a pretty blue egg..two were from a brown egg..and that would be one I put under my broody girl..it hatched. She's being a good mama.
Here's my bundle of black..I put them all out with the mom when I finished taking pics...
Feathered feet on most of them.. going to be cute EE's...lots of muff to them...
Not so much muff on the last one..that's from a brown egg..probably a pure maran... but most have puffy cheeks and neck..hard to see with my most wonderful camera.
Well I gave the 5 eggs that looked good to my hen (who has been broody for a month now) so I wouldn't have to worry about a the different lockdown dates for my eggs. She sat on them for half a day and then moved!!! I had a board up but she pushed it over. The eggs were really cold and I figured that was the end of that, but put them back in the incubator anyways. Very glad I kept them because we are hearing cheaping now and a couple are rocking!
I feel bad for opening the bator and not having the humidity up! I'm not very good at this hatching thing!
