Keep me posted. We can work through this.....I already have chickens but haven't hatched any. I hope this works out. Good luck to you.

Same with me, I have chickens but this is my first hatch too. I candelled a random egg last night and saw veins so i also think this is working! lol

Hey Ladeefire, I just candelled 3 of mine....2 with veins. YAY!
BUT when I was candeling one, I dropped it. It didn't break it landed on a thick rug. Should I be worried that I killed it???

Wow, that's great! I'd better get off my bum and candle soon-I'm curious if I'll be able to candle through my eggs, don't know if they're too dark (I'll look for a thread on BCM candling).

Day 5

Suro: 99.5/44%
LG: 100.8/29%

Have a great day!

I am on day 6 now and haven't gotten an answer about the egg I dropped. Does anyone think it survived the fall, even though it didnt crack? Also some (2or 3) of the eggs have these clearish, yellow, dry, hard bubbles on the outside of the shell, does anyone know what thats about? Rotten??

Try candling the dropped egg. If the vein growth looks similar to another egg of same age it is probably ok?

Thanks Topeka. I have looked for veins and haven't seen anything. Still holding out.

I finally read the thread posted by Speckled Hen on checking the fertility of an egg by examining the yolk.
Thanks! I love that there is sooo much to learn and this site and its members are my the best resource.

BTW I checked a couple of the ee eggs my girls left for me and I'm happy to say the roo is doing his job! lol

Okay, we all set eggs Saturday. Is today candling day? I thought I had a tight fit with 18 big eggs in the new Brinsea 20, so I moved them to the Hova 1588 which I had, and I've been happy with. I am winging it with one outside glass thermometer which has been in all my hatches, and a spot check. I'm waiting for a hygrometer (hydrometer?) I'm just going by past things that I have done. I think if I go from 8 silkie eggs to less, I'm going to move them to my broody silkie, since it will make it a whole lot easier than introducing them later on.
Darn, I wish that Brinsea had been a bit bigger, it's a quality bator and works perfect.
