Need hatching buddy! Setting 5 duck and 5 hen eggs Sat 1/16

I think it's the dark eggs. Notorious for not seeing anything. Can you imagine trying to candle those real dark brown eggs?

I'm living it. Most of my eggs are dark chocolate brown (BCM) the others are green and blue. I don't know how well developed they are but haven't had any stink or explode, I've seen air sacs and felt some little bodies move from within the eggs. Next time I'll need to set a few white or pale eggs so I can appreciate all of it firsthand. This time I'm living through you all and my little glimmers of hope!

OMG they explode?

Refridgerator:
HA HA HA I will call him/her chilly willy

I only know what I've read here and hope to never experience an "eggsplosion" (sorry, couldn't resist).
It is always a possibility, so I've read...

Chilly Willy-reminds me of the penquin cartoon, cute!

It's funny, my 1st bator experience I didn't have any stink or explode and some petered out that 1st wk. I left all 7 eggs in throughout-makes me wonder how one does explode. Too much heat, humidity, stress from shipping/handling, small cracks that went unnoticed,...it baffles me (which doesn't say much;)

ladeefire, that isn't a run of the mill smilie...where did you find Chilly Willy?

I candled last Tuesday and we actually did pretty good with the exception of my blue orpingtons I had 10 that were empty

my other eggs that came in the mail were blue cochins and only had one empty and I was very suprised we put in 6-8 from each of our own breeding pens and I knew my two pens would be pretty good as far as fertility but I have a pen with all blue cochins and I have never seen this rooster do anything in the way of breeding his hens but out of 8 eggs I have 7 fertile so he must be doing something behind the scenes

Dani, empty eggs must be common this time of year. I live in Florida, and my roo has just started to do the dance and date again, and very eager. Half of my silkie eggs were clear.
