Hi y'all,
So I have 16 guinea fowl babies, along with 6 chicks, the temp in my house right now is 81°, I have been using a heat lamp, now it has been off for a few hours now because it got wicked hot inside and I didn't want the babies getting hurt or sick etc, now my question is if it is 81° inside and I checked the weather outside which is 66° when I checked, will the Littles be ok for the night without the heat lamp on them?

I have them in a plastic tote, so can I just put a sheet over them?
Wk 1-90-95°
Wk 2 85-90°
Put a thermometer on base of tote and see what reads. Heat lamp in tote is a fire hazard. A sheet will lead to escaping keets sooner than you think. I use the lid to the tote, cut out the center and screen it. The 1st time, I cut with the pattern of lid so that there were 3 holes with bars between then put pieces of hard cloth over holes. The second time, I just put a sliding screen on top. That way they can't escape but I can lock lid down to protect them from nosey dogs and grandkids.

If you don’t have a thermometer immediately on hand you can just watch their behavior and listen to them.
If they are noisy, something is wrong. Either too hot or too cold.
If they are huddling up, they are cold and need more heat.
If they are spaced out with wings held away from their bodies and breathing with mouths open, they are too hot.

Quiet, walking around, and sleeping next to each other/slightly spaced, they are just right🙂

I often shut my lamps off mid day if it’s sunny and the sunroom I keep my babies in is really warm. I don’t always check the temp, but I always monitor their behavior closely.
