Need help/advice for goose not eating and wobbly

Still day 7:

I returned from town with the Corid. I have added it to a fresh gallon of water per instructions I found here for the powdered solution (1/2 tsp/gal). I removed her bathing water because I understand that the Corid mix should be the only source of drinking water for 5 days.

As soon as I returned I find her more unsteady than ever. Falling forwards, backwards, and sideways. The poor girl can't hardly walk at all and is currently sitting in a corner watching the others play. She has hardly sat in 7 days preferring to stand most of the time.

She is eating a lot more now. Still not great but a substantial improvement. I saw some fresh poop that looked brown and runny ( a little like chocolate syrup ) that she must of done while I was out. While I was changing her water she pooped pretty much all straight clear liquid.

Balance issues are much worse, but now she's eating. I can't tell if she's improving or deteriorating. I don't know what else to do from here except monitor and hope and hope and hope.

Thanks for listening. Since I won't be changing or trying anything while I have her on Corid, I will update only if there is a significant change good or bad.

Sigh... The 1/2 teaspoon powder dose is wrong. Ignore all posts that say it's correct. Trust me, I've done the math several ways and I've also weighed the powder. The correct 0.024% dose is no less than 1.5 teaspoons per gallon. Treat at this amount for five days then reduce to 1/3 teaspoon for 7 days.

Has she ever been de-wormed? That's something you can do. If she were mine I would give Safeguard liquid or paste at 0.23ml per pound orally for five days. Safeguard and Corid can be given at the same time.

Is a vet an option?

It's 9:30 pm now so I'll change that dose on the Corid first thing in the morning. Wish I knew that 2 days ago when I started her on it. Glad to have that info now, thank you for the correction.

Not wormed. Haven't seen any obvious worms (tape, round, etc). But I suppose it could be any other types. The Safeguard paste, do you mean the Ivermectin? If so then it would save me a 60 mile round trip into town (TSC) as I can get the Safeguard ivermectin from the feed store only 2 miles away. I saw it on the shelf when I was picking up the feed this morning and wondered if I should have bought some.

Vet is not an option. Two livestock vets each a few miles away, but when I had a problem with a turkey last spring they both told me they don't treat birds, just cattle, horses, sheep, goats, cats, dogs. I'm on my own doing my best and relying on any reasonable information I can get on-line.

Any suggestions on what to do to get some food in her. I don't know how long she can go without eating. She's eaten virtually nothing. She had a pound of food in her feeder last Sunday (9 days ago) and most of it is still there. I don't think she's eaten more than a cup or less in that amount of time and most of it was Saturday. She didn't eat at all today. I'm getting worried as she hasn't been touching the treats I've been trying to give her either.

Got it. I'll check at the feed store for fenbendazole in paste or liquid. Sad thing is I have fenbendazole in pellets, but if she won't eat...it's worthless .

I read your articles on tube feeding so I feel comfortable being able to make sure it goes into the crop and avoid the windpipe. But it is a goose with a long neck and she is pretty squirmy. How on earth am I going to hold her entire head still and keep her neck straight so I can safely do this. Not to mention that geese have teeth. Definitely need advise for that.

Also what can I feed her until I can get to Petsmart for the baby bird formula. Petsmart is a 75 mile round trip. Since I have another doctors appointment Wednesday morning in the same neighborhood it would really help to do both on the same day.

She was drinking quite a lot. Especially when I had a large feed bowl that served for a warm bath before I started Corid. But now she been drinking very little the last two days

There really isn't much to update on. Monday (day 9) she didn't eat. Drank very little (but did drink). Turned her nose up at watered down mash. I gave it to the rest of the flock before closing them up for the night and they cleaned it up. Diamond is starting to act depressed. Still pacing around like she wants out when she's not nose in a corner.

Today I have a splitting headache and my body is running down too. I'm disabled and have several health issues. So I'm trying very hard to be strong for Diamond but it's getting harder on me too both mentally and physically. So reality is I'm getting worried for the both of us. If you pray, pray for her to heal and strength for me to help her heal.
