Need Help ASAP please-baby chick walking with it's wings out, chirping loudly, etc.

she didn't make it. I figured out the issue but it was too late. Thank you for responding.

I'm reluctant to discuss. I went against my better judgment and gave them mealworms. She had a sour crop. By the time I figured it out she was too weak and died while I was giving her treatment. I don't really want to discuss because I don't want any negative feedback. It's hard enough losing a chicken but even harder when you are the contributing factor.

These things happen and we all live and learn from these things. Don't beat your self up about it, it happens. Goodness there are lots of things that I wish I had done different but I learnt from them. to you.

Thank you Yorkshire Coop, MrsKuhn, and Stellaluna55. It was a hard, hard lesson to learn. My first tragedy with raising baby chicks and certainly one from my own negligence. But a very valuable lesson learned.

I'm sorry if this is a naive question, but I'm new to chickens and as I always say, the only good thing that can come of something like this is learning from the mistake - how did the mealworms cause sour crop? Was it lack of grit?

I am by no means an expert, but yes, they need chick grit. I also, personally, think they were too young and little to have the worms to begin with (hence my 'knowing better'). Others might have more experience and therefore better advice about what to give chickens and at what stages.

I have found this group to be extremely supportive and welcoming so far; I certainly hope you don't receive any negativity due to a mistake that you're obviously feeling terrible about already.
