Need help ASAP re; hatching duckling

My one duck has an egg about to hatch however we found it out of the nest box.. no clue how it got out... now i gently picked it up and set it back in.. do i put it UNDER the duck? did she toss it? the baby is alive..

NO idea what to do here? the egg was under her like 10mins ago as we are going in/out checking on the other duck hatching right now..

Tough to say.... I am not a hatcher, but from what I have read, different things happen.

Ducks unexplainably decide not to finish the job.

Ducklings are somehow deformed or ill.

Probably dozens of other things, but as I mentioned, I haven't helped a hatch myself yet.

If she rejects it again, you need to consider either giving it to someone who knows how to run an incubator, or get ahold of one and get help from the BYC hatchers online.

Thank you, my daughter watched her literally push it back out, i don't have a brooder so we tried to give it to Lilly who has many babies already hatched or are about too...

I think so far she has taken it, we are constantly checking

Whew.. ok Lilly has taken the baby! the egg is under her with all the rest of the combo of babies and remaining eggs. I have no idea why Lilac did this? she did have a live hatch 2wks ago.. it lived for 4 days then mysteriously was found dead, i am wondering now if she killed it.

Seems not all domestic ducks are cut out to be good mothers.
