NEED HELP ASAP WITH ITTY BITTY CAT!!!! long post

I used to work at a veterinary office and whatever you do ONLY feed her TINY amounts at first or she will die. She can't handle a lot of food at once after starving for so long. Feed her several times a day just a tiny big...maybe a few tablespoons...your doing right by getting the replacement milk mixed with your hard food. I would stay away from ALL people food for a while. WATER, but don't let her drink the whole bowl. NO PEOPLE MILK at all. She should be ok if you stick to small amounts of food for a at least a week. Keep her in a safe place...don't let her roam around your house. Keep her in the bathroom/bedroom for now until she gets stronger. Give her lots of reassurance and keep any small kids away from her for a week. Poor baby was just through ALOT!

Thank you all for your suggestions. She is eating well...she has had about 1/2 cup of my special mixture since 1:00 this afternoon.

The pine pitch is sooooooo bad. She has it in between her toes (if that's what you call them) and you can hear her pads tap on the linoleum floor. She seems to be very itchy!

I have her in my masterbathroom to keep her safe. I was afraid that my kids would accidentally let her outside. I am assuming that she is getting the sleep she needs. Every time I check up on her, she has a little bit more energy.

I am going to try the dehydration test that rooster0209 suggested. And beleive it or not, I actually have some udder cream, so I'll try putting that on her pads.

I would give her wet food. don't give her too much food to start her off, that could make her sick. Feed her wet food a couple times a day.

If you cant afford your vet, then call your local shelter, they usually will help you for free.

i had a cat stuck in a tree for 6 days and prego. she was in bad shape too. as someone else said go very slow on the feeding. she'll perk up eventually but since she was already small it might take some time. poor thing.

If you have a regular syringe, no needle, you can squirt water in her mouth, to get her to drink. Also, you should go out and get some KMR, and give it to her in the wet food, or make a milk mixture and let her drink it. It will help her gain weight.

DE helps with the sticky stuff. I had a chick that had gotten stuck on a sticky mouse trap and DE was the only thing I had on hand to get her off. Her name is Sticky. She looked rough for a couple of weeks, but the sticky stuff eventually wore off.

That's what I have been giving her.
The ironic thing with this cat is that I rescued her when she was only a week old and I still had a can of KMR on the shelf. Her mother had abandoned her in the wood pile on my property. I have been her mother since then and have raised her. So it's no wonder she only answers to my voice.

Would you also reccomend the Nutri-Cal?

I just wanted to add that squirting any liquid into anythings mouth is dangerous unless you are familiar with technique and anatomy as you can easily squirt the liquid into the lungs and cause more serious problems than you have. As long as the cat is drinking on it's own there is no need to force hydrate.

I also agree with jjthink- subcutaneous fluids would definitely be beneficial, might be something you want to look into if she isn't noticably better in the next day or so, maybe call around if it comes to that. Good luck!

Keep doing what you are doing, but DO NOT feed her too much as her stomach is not accomidated(sp?) to the large amount of food and if fed too much, the body can produce too much insulin which can kill the cat. Make sure she has clean water and a nice place to sleep. Over time, give her more to eat as she gets used to the portions.
